It’s dumpling time in Highland Park, as the folks behind Monrovia’s Luscious Dumplings set up shop along Figueroa. Their new space is called Mason’s Dumpling Shop, and it’s officially cooking as of this past weekend.
Mason’s is an even more casual offshoot of what is already one of greater Los Angeles’s more prolific dumpling houses. The family behind Luscious is actually still hand-making all of their dumplings at the original location, and driving them in throughout the day to the new Mason’s strip mall storefront. There are options for boiled, steamed, and pan-fried dumplings, as well as vegetable sides, beef and pork buns, and smaller rice bowls.
Chief among the menu options are sure to be the family’s signature fried pork dumplings, with their crispy laced edges. The shop will also carry traditional pan-steamed xiao long bao soup dumplings, and almost nothing on menu creeps over the $10 mark.

As for the space, expect a clean, small room with tables along one side and counter seating looking out the front window. Most of the condiments and accoutrement are self-serve from a table at one end, and customers order from the counter with the menu overhead. Ownership says a photo menu board is coming soon, but for now it’s just a handful of easy-to-discern dumpling options, available for lunch or dinner.
Mason’s Dumpling Shop began limited service on Saturday and continues through today, before a grand opening party on Thursday. Expect hours from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., every day except Tuesday.
