The food hall wars continue in Koreatown next, with the incoming opening of Platform 35, right across from the Line Hotel on Wilshire.
The Platform 35 project has been in discussions for well over a year, but now on-site staff tells Eater that the dream is becoming a reality around the first of next month. Meanwhile, Adam Fleischman’s Cold Cocked Coffee will be the first to open, keeping hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting tomorrow.
So what to expect at the sunny second-floor hall? There’s going to be a Guisados, for one, which is good news for fans craving handmade tortillas and stewed meat tacos. Popular doner kebab shop Berlins also has a stall further down, and the endcap space at the southern end is reserved for Mattoni Pizza Kitchen; the build-out even includes a wood-fired oven.
The stalls in between will be populated by Lingho Chinese Cuisine and Calibunga Fish Co., while the northern edge is reserved for 8th Notch, a beer and burger outfit that has views down onto Wilshire Boulevard proper. Eater reached out to the Platform 35 crew for more information and to firm up timing on the opening and beyond, but so far they have not responded.
Fleischman, however, tells Eater that Friday is the opening date for his fourth-wave coffee experiment, Cold Cocked. Rather than simply make espresso or drip drinks, the plan here is to fuse great coffee with a cocktail technique and proprietary recipes. The results look wildly different than any other coffee place in town, and largely taste different too. Expect a balance of sweet and savory (salt comes into play a lot at the bar) and a heavy use of bartender shakers for thorough blending.
As for the rest of Platform 35, keep an eye out for a proposed opening sometime on or around the first of November, though these things are subject to change.
Platform 35 Markethall. 3500 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA.
