The crowds have already arrived at Adams Coffee Shop, San Francisco chef Daniel Patterson’s new casual daytime space in busy West Adams. The first waves came through the door at 7 a.m. sharp for coffee, despite some finishing touches still being installed inside.
It’s easy to see why Adams Coffee Shop — and Patterson’s soon-to-open adjacent dinner space Alta — have been so highly anticipated, particularly within the neighborhood. New projects like Highly Likely and Open Face Food Shop are arriving all the time, aiming to feed the growing density of the South LA neighborhood with grain bowls, toasts, and, in the case of Adams Coffee Shop, grilled meatloaf sandwiches. Add in coffee, a comfortable place to sit, and the crowds will come.
It does help that the space itself is rather inviting, with a distinctly midcentury modern appeal touched off by retro color schemes, lots of wood and vintage furniture, and the requisite greenery hanging inside.
As for Alta, expect a likely opening sometime late next week. That’s where Patterson and chef Keith Corbin will begin to turn out a comfort food menu with a California focus, with lots of employees coming right from the surrounding neighborhood. In the meantime Adams Coffee Shop is open now, keeping daily hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The opening menu is below.
Adams Coffee Shop. 5359 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles, CA.
