Good news, Pasadena: Shake Shack is coming. The impossibly popular New York City-based burger chain is opening up a tiny new location right along South Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena, just a block or so north of the terminus of the 110 Freeway.

This new location takes over a former Budget Rent-a-Car facility, and carries what may well be the smallest footprint for any standalone Shake Shake in Southern California. Right now the address is little more than a small, squat black building with room for parking where the rentals used to be, but there’s good frontage to the street and access from the side street (Fillmore) as well. Eater reached out to Shake Shack reps to find out exactly what the plan is for the design of the property.

Almost right next door to the incoming Shake Shack is Pitfire Pizza and, more recently, a standalone building called Superba Snacks + Coffee. The addition of a Shake Shack, plus options like Yuca’s, Lucky Boy, Houston’s , and even Whole Foods on that stretch make it one of the more interesting food corridors in all of Pasadena.

In just two-and-a-half short years, Shake Shack has gone from an East Coast fixation to a West Coast staple, opening up a bunch of new locations around greater Southern California. There are now locations in El Segundo, Hollywood, Glendale, Century City, Downtown, and at LAX — and that’s beyond the chain’s original LA outlet in West Hollywood. Reps from Shake Shack say to expect an opening late next year.
