Back in 2014, owner Gretchen Shoemaker opened the popular Georgia’s Restaurant in the Anaheim Packing District. Her family-owned soul food spot gathered a loyal following over the years, and now they’re ready to introduce a second location by early 2019. It’ll take up residency at the Long Beach Exchange, the mega shopping retail development in North Long Beach.
Shoemaker’s menu is a romp through traditional soul food, peppered with a taste of New Orleans, including po’ boys, red beans and rice, and jambalaya. It’s a solid add to LBX, who is curating a diverse group of restaurants. There’s a corner lot In-N-Out Burger, Orange County-based Portola Coffee Roasters, the upscale The 908, and Southern California chain The Kroft and Grilled Cheese Bar.
Georgia’s addition is a smart move by the organizers of Long Beach Exchange. According to the Long Beach Post, Georgia’s OC location brings in approximately $2 million per year.
