The man

Dave Grohl continues to be the best, as he showed up at a fire station out in Calabasas to serve free hot meals to those working tirelessly to battle the ongoing Woolsey Fire. What’s even more interesting than all that goodwill, though, is news that Grohl himself may be starting up a barbecue-focused project of his own called Back Beat BBQ. There’s a young Instagram page now live under that name, and it’s getting flooded with Foo Fighters fans who expect news at some point down the line. Grohl already has a long history with meat and smoke, and was recently helping out a buddy at a barbecue pop-up at the Valley Urban Market in Studio City. No word yet on whether Back Beat BBQ will offer pop-ups of their own, stay private, or move into a physical space some time in the future.

Ice cream news

Heads up for all the Milk Bar fans out there: Today only the Melrose restaurant is doing cups of soft serve for only $1. The reduced-price party is to celebrate Milk Bar’s 10 year anniversary, so head over some time between 11 a.m. and midnight.

Meals for less

Speaking of discounts, there’s a new deal for 50% off food at Sushi Roku in Pasadena. The half-off window only lasts until Thursday though, so better get on it.

Tough times

A small fire broke out at a strip mall along La Cienega in West Hollywood over the weekend, threatening both Asakuma and Vito’s Pizza next door. The grease fire ultimately spared the pizza shop, and they’re back up and running now.

Piccolo no more

The 90-pop-up Piccolo Antico is no more at The Fields. Chef Chad Colby and crew are officially not bringing their focaccia sandwiches and sides back to the food hall attached to Banc of California Stadium, as they focus instead on the inbound opening of his Larchmont-adjacent restaurant Antico.

Cocktail king

LA Magazine is head over heels for Mon Li, Matthew Biancaniello’s new cocktail tasting menu space out in Malibu. And while the restaurant is currently closed due to the fast-moving Woolsey Fire, they say there’s still a lot of behind-the-scenes knowledge to know about this unique place along the coast.

Chocolate news

Milla Chocolates has opened in Culver City. The locally-made luxe sweets brand landed yesterday with a gorgeous new space at 9414 Venice Boulevard.
