In what’s probably the best news this week, the Seal Beach community is rallying around local donut shop owner, John Chhan. Every day, customers buy donuts by the dozen so Chhan can tend to his ailing wife, Stella Chhan.

The couple opened Donut City 30 years ago, after arriving in the U.S. as Cambodian refugees in 1979. They usually work together every day, but regulars noticed Stella was absent. John shared that his wife had an aneurysm in October, and customers figured out a way to help.

According to CBS-LA, customers offered to setup a GoFundMe account, which John refused. But now people visit Donut City early and buy every donut in the shop so John can be with his wife while she recovers.

The Seal Beach community got the word out quickly, and requested that locals buy the donuts in large amounts. According to ABC-7, entire donut trays were empty by 10:30 a.m. last Thursday.
