Eleven-year-old wine bar and restaurant Bacaro LA will temporarily close to rework the space and introduce a new look, menu, and apparently, a new neighborhood. One look at a Los Angeles map, and the forthcoming Bacari West Adams is clearly in the South LA neighborhood of University Park. The owners are using some creative geography to attach themselves to West Adams, which is becoming one of LA’s hottest restaurant neighborhoods.

Renovations began one week ago, and the new eatery hopes to open by mid-January. Owners Robert and Danny Kronfli, and former Jean-Georges chef Lior Hillel are labeling Bacari West Adams as a “neighborhood-first restaurant’ with a full liquor license. They’ll fully gut the interior while Hillel will perform refresh the menu.

The Kronflis and Hillel recently opened Bacari W. 3rd in September, and have a total of four locations throughout greater Los Angeles. The move seems geared to help expand Bacaro LA’s customer base beyond USC students, who regularly took advantage of its affordable tapas and drinks.

West Adams exploded with new and notable restaurant openings in 2018, with Adams Coffee Shop, Highly Likely, Daniel Patterson’s Alta Adams, and Open Face Food Shop. Each are physically on West Adams Boulevard, with Crenshaw as the eastern border and Fairfax to the west. The northern part begins at the 10 Freeway and ends at Exposition.

While construction continues for the next month, Bacaro L.A.’s food and drinks will be available next door at Nature’s Brew a la pop-up, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
