One of Orange County’s Oldest Chinese Restaurants Closes After 40 Years

The long goodbye

Sad days are ahead for fans of Yen Ching restaurant in Orange. The OC Register reports that the restaurant will be closing its doors on New Years Eve, ending an almost 40-year run for the iconic spot. Yen Ching has been known for decades to critics and regular diners alike as a spot for vintage Chinese-American cuisine, served with a smile inside a Googie-style A-frame cafe space. On Facebook, ownership says that “we have decided that the time for retirement has come.”

Burbank landing

Shake Shack opens in Burbank today. The popular chain lands at 200 N. San Fernando Road, and is donating 25% of today’s proceeds to the mental healthy non-profit Bring Change to Mind.

And more burgers

Burgers Never Say Die is almost ready to fire up the smashers in Silver Lake. The popular pressed burger spot is opening its first brick and mortar location on Glendale Boulevard in the coming weeks, which means they’re starting to hire up now,.

Langer’s love

LA Times is stepping further and further into the video world, this time showing off the #19 sandwich (and the full scenery of the dining room) from iconic deli Langer’s. Check it out.

Angrier and angrier

The Dave’s Hot Chicken knock-offs just keep coming. The latest is Angry Birdz, another red-and-white Nashville-style hot chicken outlet that opened just a couple of weeks ago in a small storefront a block away from the original Dave’s parking lot setup.

The weekend feels right

Simone has officially begun working a weekend brunch menu. The new Arts District restaurant is doing everything from plantain-polenta pancakes to short rib porridge, plus cocktails and wine of course. Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
