The team behind Hollywood’s Wirtshaus and sister concept Rasselbock in Long Beach are taking their biergarten brainchild to Mar Vista. It’ll be named Rasselbock, and opens in mid-January.

Thanks to a tipster, Eater learned the company took over the shuttered the former modern gastropub, Louie’s Of Mar Vista, and construction is well underway. The forthcoming location is only steps away from David Kuo’s Little Fatty and Accomplice bar. German-born owners Bjoern Risse and Bülent Yildirim estimate mid-2019 as a possible opening date, provided everything goes right with the restaurant gods.

Parent company German Gastro Management opened Wirsthaus on La Brea in 2011, and then Rasselbock Long Beach in late 2016. And while the names are different, the method is the same. The partners installed an indoor/outdoor biergarten with a menu that goes far beyond currywurst, with meat platters, vegetables, spätzle, potato pancakes, and an entire section dedicated to schnitzel. Then there’s countless options for German beer served in pints or massive boots, and is typically dog-friendly with sports TVs.
