A Marvelous sandwich at Canter’s
To promote the new season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime, Canter’s will give away 50 free sandwiches called “The Maisel” with pastrami, salami, coleslaw, and sauce on rye bread starting December 9 until the 16th, reports TimeOut. Other delis such as Carnegie Deli in New York City will also prepare the special promotional sandwich. Anyone who doesn’t end up getting one of those free sandwiches can still order the Maisel off the menu. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s second season premieres today.
101 restaurants to know about in Los Angeles
Yesterday the LA Times released its annual 101 restaurant list, now dubbed 101 Restaurant We Love (paywall). The listicle incorporates many of the late critic Jonathan Gold’s picks, but compiles a number of new selections such as Felix (which was snubbed last year) and Majordomo (which Jonathan Gold clearly did not like). In addition, the list compiles a number of restaurant clusters like the “Mozzaplex,” which aggregates all of Nancy Silverton’s places, but also assembles Josef Centeno’s Downtown LA restaurants as “Centenoplex.” Some head-scratching exclusions include Animal and Here’s Looking at You, while Orange County restaurants like Taco Maria and Marche Moderne continue to populate a mostly LA list, but otherwise it’s a pretty comprehensive roundup of excellent eateries in Los Angeles.
Rollin’ in the deep at Sushi|Bar
A number of celebrities dined together at the hidden and tiny Sushi|Bar in Encino on Sunday evening. Adele, Cameron Diaz, Mila Kunis, Nicole Ritchie, and Zoe Saldana all sat down at the omakase restaurant to eat the 17-course sushi menu. Imagine booking a seat next to that much star power.
Pinches in Downtown
The former Yorkshire Grill, which first opened in the 1940s, closed a few years ago, succumbing to a challenging Downtown restaurant scene. The space, which felt lifted right out of Mad Men, is becoming a new location for Pinches Tacos.
Another juice bar in the 90210
Toddrickallen has the scoop on the former Basanti tea bar on Small Santa Monica Boulevard, which will become a juice bar called Organica. Juices, superfoods, bowls, all the kind of stuff the yoga-going Beverly Hills denizens will eat until the end of time.
