An all-day neighborhood restaurant called The Gables is coming to Santa Monica this March. When open, the restaurant will be located on Wilshire between Third and Fourth Streets, and operated by a team that includes consulting chef and former Superba and Beacon veteran Vicki Fan Matsusaka; Daniel Boulud’s former restaurant group manager Juan Ramirez, and first-time restaurant owner Kevin Lazan.
In 2016, Lazan left a successful career in finance to open The Gables, and assembled the aforementioned team to execute the counter-service restaurant. Expect this Westside restaurant to emphasize a market-driven menu, with all baked goods prepared onsite.
Fan Matsusaka will be consulting chef for The Gables, and is affectionately remembered for opening Beacon in Culver City. She formerly led the kitchen at the Venice Superba Food + Bread. Juan Ramirez joined Daniel Boulud’s restaurant group in 2008, and was stationed in both New York and London throughout his career with the company.
The Gables is an homage to the original Gables in Santa Monica, which was the seaside city’s first beach club. It burned down in 1930 after opening in 1926. The Gables 2.0 goes into the former Readers Fine Jeweler space, which means the team likely had a lengthy build-out process. The Gables is directly across the street from P.F. Chang’s, and one block away from Third Street Promenade.
The Gables. 331 Wilshire Boulevard. Santa Monica, CA
