Bluestone Lane in Studio City
Another day, another Australian coffee shop opening in LA. This time it’s Bluestone Lane, a mostly East Coast import with multiple locations in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and beyond. The shop recently (and rather quietly) announced a standalone first Los Angeles location in Studio City, with a La Brea option on the way.
So what to expect? The usual fare: Lattes, drip coffee, toasts, pastries, and a cool kid aesthetic. The place is open now at 12186 Ventura Blvd., with hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Fat Dog barks
Fairfax’s Fat Dog is back up and running after a little nip and tuck. The seven-year-old space now includes an updated bar area and switched up dining arrangement.
Basque and beer in Redondo
A Basq Kitchen in Redondo Beach is hosting its second-ever beer pairing dinner on Sunday night. Expect a family-style multi-course affair for $55.

A new name in food media
LA Weekly has finally officially introduced its new food editor, Michele Stueven. Though mostly known as an entertainment reporter, the first-person-penned piece details a life spent in kitchens, both home and commercial.
Freedmans forever
Freedman’s in Silver Lake seems to be on everyone’s mind of late. The popular casual modern Jewish deli recently got short-listed for a James Beard Foundation Award, and now comes this LA Magazine profile on chef Liz Johnson.
Pez Cantina taco time
It’s the three year anniversary of Downtown’s Pez Cantina soon, and to celebrate the restaurant is (of course) hosting a taco-eating contest.
