Upstart drinking option the Long Beach Beer Lab is opening a new taproom in 2019. First reported by the Long Beach Post, the taproom and brewery will be located in North Long Beach at a mixed-use development called The Uptown, which is just south of the 91 Freeway on Atlantic Boulevard.

Husband-wife team Levi Fried and Harmony Sage run the Long Beach Beer Lab. In July 2017, the duo opened their first location in Long Beach’s Wrigley neighborhood, and are now expanding into the more developing Uptown neighborhood. Fried’s uses his background in biochemistry and microbiology with the beer making process, while Sage applies her classic French pastry training towards the menu.

The Uptown is a 19,000 square foot development that will utilize shipping containers, and is part of three projects designed to create a Main Street for North Long Beach. This is a sharp contrast to most Long Beach retail and restaurant activity, which typically occurs closer to the Pacific Ocean in areas like Belmont Shore, Downtown Long Beach, 4th Street, or Bixby Knolls.

Fried is looking to transform the neighborhood, and expand his business. “Our Uptown development will house a satellite taproom for LBBL coming in the summer of 2019, which is one part of a larger expansion the brewery is undertaking both in manufacturing and retail,” says Fried. “LBBL is dedicated to Long Beach and North Long Beach has been neglected from the artisan scene for too long. We would like to bring the entire Long Beach scene into the fold — it’s in our name and a huge part of our mission.”
