Things are coming together quickly for Le Bon Garcon, the East Hollywood sweets shop landing next to Friends & Family on Hollywood Boulevard. The new spot is expected to open its doors on Friday, April 20.
Le Bon Garcon is the work of Justin Chao, a longtime local who followed the usual obsessive path, giving up his office job to move to Paris and study the timeless art of caramel-making. Since then he’s returned to Los Angeles to sell wholesale online and in some select shops around the city — and even landed a coveted spot in an Oprah gift guide once — but is now growing into his very own storefront.
The plan is for Le Bon Garcon to act as a complement to the many fantastic restaurants already found in East Hollywood/Thai Town. The cafe will mostly operate as a takeaway option but will have a few seats inside (see below) for customers who choose to dine in on caramels, and soon coffee and other confections. Expect a variety of pre-wrapped flavors as well as jars of caramel to take home and freshly made waffles filled with caramel for lazy weekend mornings. Look for classes and other events down the line.
Le Bon Garcon officially opens Friday, keeping hours from noon to 5 p.m. only to start, Thursday through Saturday. Those hours will grow with time (as will the menu), so expect just caramels and waffles to start.
