Gardena’s second brewery opens this Thursday, and the new player is Ximix Craft Exploration. Breweries are popping up all over the South Bay, and this includes the 2016 openings of Gardena’s State Brewing Company. Neighboring city Hawthorne opened LA Ale Works that same year, and Common Space Brewery opened doors less than a mile away from LA Ale Works last month. And Torrance has breweries like Monkish, HopSaint, Smog City, and Strand.
It took two years for co-founder and head brewer Erik DeBellis to transform Ximix’s warehouse into a full brewery with bar and seating area. Situated near Rosecrans between Western and Normandie, DeBellis will experiment with a rotating menu of eight beers on tap. Some will be seasonal, others as a one off, but they will include pales, IPAs, and blondes, among others.
Ximix is DeBellis’ first brewery after honing his skills at Coachella Valley Brewing Co., La Quinta Brewing Company, and Babe’s Bar-B-Que & Brewhouse. DeBellis found his brewing voice at Babe’s, and found a home in the blossoming South Bay beer community. “In the South Bay there are a great cast of breweries, and we want to find our place among them.”
Starting April 5, Ximix operating hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
