The modern Middle Eastern movement continues to take over every neighborhood in Los Angeles, coming next to Palms with the opening of a second Jaffa restaurant later this year or early next.
The first Jaffa, located on saturated West Third Street, only opened in December but has already become one of the busier restaurants in town. The menu is a casual mix of mostly Israeli favorites, from a take on a northern African chickpea stew to pita, fresh fish, and a whole lot more. This second location along Venice Boulevard will carry many of those early dish hits, but will also more closely align with the neighborhood’s own aesthetic. That means one-off menu items found only at this new location, with drinks (there will be a full bar) and pricing to match.
Jaffa chef/owner Anne Conness of Sausal is of course the driving force behind this new Palms outlet. Her team is mum on official timelines and further details but says that Matt Winter will be onboard again to design a new look and feel that fits the building. As for the opening, it will either be late-2018, right around the one-year mark of the first Jaffa, or something in early 2019. In the meantime there is Mh Zh, Botanica, Farida, Kismet, and Ori Menashe’s new Bavel to choose from in the modern Middle Eastern genre right now.
