Westsiders longing for a taste of HomeState will now officially get their chance this year, as the Texas-inspired restaurant is heading for a new home in Playa Vista. With good luck and fortunate timing, expect an opening in early fall.
HomeState is the work of Briana Valdez and her merry crew of close friends and family. The first location opened in Los Feliz and became nearly an overnight success, owing to its menu of sub-$4 breakfast tacos, a dish still not seen everywhere in town. They’re prepared with handmade flour tortillas and served with Austin’s Cuvée coffee, queso, and Frito pies. A second all-day location arrived in Highland Park earlier this year, with a big patio and a full liquor license for margaritas and Shiner Bock.
Expect this new Playa Vista location to keep much the look and feel of the others. That means rough-hewn wood and sunny artwork, with bench seating and the expectation of lines snaking out the front door in the morning.

Valdez tells Eater that she has had a lease on this location since last year, but is only now getting started since HomeState Highland Park is up and running. That means things will take time, but with an expected three-month build-out she hopes to open by September.
