Red Rock, the Japanese beef bowl restaurant that first opened in Torrance last year, is expanding to Sawtelle Japantown on June 1. That’s according to a sign that says the West LA location should within a few weeks. As rumored, Red Rock goes into the former Morinoya space inside the Olympic Collection at the corner of Sawtelle and Olympic Boulevards.
Already Sawtelle Japantown is the largest cluster of Japanese and Asian restaurants on the Westside, with Tsujita, Curry House, and Tatsu Ramen, just to name a few already on the block. Red Rock adds its reasonably priced roasted beef bowls that come with medium rare roast beef, raw egg yolk, peppered yogurt sauce, and a sweet soy sauce over rice for around $13 a bowl.
Red Rock in Torrance also serves grilled American-style steak, curry, and garlic shrimp, and it’s safe to assume that the Morinoya kitchen would be able to accommodate a very similar menu. The big issue with Morinoya, and one that Red Rock might have to struggle with, is that its second story location is a bit difficult to spot from the street. However, like its Torrance sister, Red Rock might potentially benefit from this kind of hidden location with word of mouth.
When it opens in June, Red Rock will serve lunch from 11:30 to 3 p.m., and from 5 to 10 p.m. daily.
Red Rock Sawtelle. 11301 W Olympic Blvd #210, Los Angeles, CA 90064.
