Back in 2015, there were rumors about Coconut’s Fish Cafe securing a four location deal for Los Angeles. The Hawaiian franchise began its expansion in 2017 with two locations in Northern California, and now arrives to DTLA’s South Park starting May 14.

DTLAer spotted Coconut’s LA outlet on the northeastern section of South Park, which is on the same block as the fairly new Shake Shack. For the unfamiliar, Coconut’s Fish Cafe is a local taco stand with Hawaiian adaptations of tacos, salads, along with fried and grilled fish. Coconut’s Fish Cafe is well known for a seven-layer taco with grilled fish, coconut milk, wasabi, crispy coleslaw, mango salsa, and melted cheese in a griddled tortilla.

The Coconut’s Fish Cafe originally launched in 2009 in Maui and then expanded to three locations in Arizona. Founder-CEO Mike Phillips hails from the Bay Area, and opened one in Cupertino and a second in Sacramento.
