Jason Fullilove and the team behind the Parlor on Melrose are almost done building a new breakfast and lunch spot in the South LA neighborhood Windsor Hills (and View Park). Hilltop Coffee & Kitchen opens this summer with some well-established neighboring restaurants.
Fullilove will serve an easy-going combination of breakfast bowls, sandwiches, pressed juices, and salads. They’ll also have an espresso bar slinging out flat whites and turmeric lattes. Diners can choose from overnight oats with greek yogurt, a short-rib grilled cheese, beignets, or a superfood bowl with curried yams, black rice, avocado, kale, and pomegranate.
Fullilove has partnered with Ajay Relan and Yonnie Hagos of The Parlor, along with hospitality consultant Thomas Lambiase. The team simply wants a daytime cafe with “food, coffee, and fellowship,” according to Fullilove.
Hilltop Kitchen is less than four miles from the incoming Inglewood football stadium, and next to the longstanding La Louisanne and historic eatery Simply Wholesome. It feels as though the Hilltop team will take some inspiration from Simply Wholesome’s owner Purcell Keeling, because the iconic restaurant is a community space continues to gather locals and visitors alike.
Fullilove also launched a Barbara Jean pop-up in Culver City earlier this week. Look next for the chef’s forthcoming Silver Lake restaurant, an unnamed Mediterranean restaurant due in 2018.
