Houston moves
The Houston brothers are taking their talents to Las Vegas. The duo behind places like Break Room 86, No Vacancy, and La Descarga are opening up inside the remodeled Park MGM with a new bar to be called On the Record, and it’s set to open on New Year’s Eve. The Strip spot will boast multiple rooms, a semi-secretive entrance, and lots of fanfare; it will also be the brothers’ largest project to date.
Gateway projects
Another day, another new development happening along Sunset Boulevard. This one is called The Sunset Gateway, and it takes place right near Trois Familia in Silver Lake. The plan is to convert some old offices into a bunch of retail spaces, with room for at least two restaurants. Check out the renderings and details over on Loopnet.
Lucques for all
Perennial restaurant favorite Lucques is throwing a big throwback party on July 1, featuring lots of familiar faces from 1999’s Best New Chefs awards from Food & Wine. That means Paul Kahan, Marc Vetri, and others will be in attendance to celebrate Lucques’ 20th anniversary, with tickets going for $150 a head.

Concha dreams
There’s a big new concha party happening this weekend at Plaza de la Raza. The second-annual Concha Con will feature live food demos, lucha libre art, lots of stuff for kids, and of course plenty of Mexican pastries to enjoy.
New look
Mizlala in Sherman Oaks has a new modern Mediterranean menu. That’s per Ventura Blvd. Magazine, who say the Danny Elmaleh place is now open for lunch and is leaning hard into salads, wraps, hummus, and other lighter fare.
Zedd-for-all
Grammy-winning artist Zedd is hosting a one-day festival in Downtown next week. The July 3 event is called, appropriately, Zedd in the Park, and it will feature live acts as well as food from some of LA’s most well-known casual food names. There’s Dogtown Dogs, VCHOS, Fat Dragon, Pizzanista, After’s Ice Cream, and more. Tickets start around $60.
The Oinkster nights
It’s a party at The Oinkster tonight, in celebration of LA Beer Week. The Eagle Rock staple restaurant is offering special brews from local names, plus one-off menu items like a patty melt and fries covered in pork adobo. Just show up to enjoy.
