There’s more news to share on that big new Sunset Boulevard development soon to take over a prime stretch of Silver Lake. The so-called Sunset Gateway development is entering its massive construction phase now, and has already signed its two anchor restaurant tenants to come along for the ride.

The first is Blue Star Donuts a Portland-based company that expanded to Los Angeles’s ritzy Abbot Kinney back in 2015, eventually adding another address down in Manhattan Beach. Now they’re jumping to the other side of town with this new development, and hope to be up and running by August. Expect the same menu of upscale doughnuts, served along with Verve Coffee in the mornings. There’s no official opening date just yet, but expect a free doughnut giveaway when the time comes.

Next up is Ramen Tatsunoya, the tonkotsu specialist with strong ties back to Japan. That group dropped its first Los Angeles location in Pasadena in 2015, and has been serving long lines of noodle-lovers ever since. Now they’re jumping into Sunset Gateway, with reps saying the menu will largely stay the same, but with the addition of some vegan offerings to suit the neighborhood.

Blue Star’s addition to Silver Lake comes on the heels of a sudden explosion of new doughnut storefronts across Los Angeles. Old school Primo’s Donuts is jumping over to Venice soon, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is hitting Santa Monica, and now Blue Star. As for Ramen Tatsunoya, they’ll have their own competition thanks to Silverlake Ramen just down the street, and Ramen Bangaichi up the other way. Expect an opening for Sunset Gateway sometime around the end of the summer.

Sunset Gateway, 3430 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles.
