Woodland Hills is getting a big infusion of sugar soon, thanks to none other than Valerie Gordon. Her namesake Valerie Confections is one of the more popular chocolate, cake, and overall dessert spots in Los Angeles, and now it’s heading for the far Valley.
Valerie Confections is set to land later this year inside the rebuilt Valley Country Mart miniplex. Long a staid sort of strip mall, the new Runyon Group project (the folks behind Platform in Culver City) aims to deliver an updated kind of culinary experience to the West Valley, bringing in a number of well-known names. Chief among the confirmed tenants is Lodge Bread Co., with Blue Bottle Coffee also taking up residency at some point soon.
Valerie Confections has snagged 1,300 square feet of retail space at the Country Mart. Unfortunately this new location won’t carry the savory-side menu that Valerie Confections rocks at her Echo Park and Grand Central Market locations, but that’s okay. Gordon calls her newest location a pure “desserterie,” with plans to continue doing chocolates, petit fours, cakes, and cookies, and adding even more Verve Coffee and teas to the mix. Gordon will also be working on an ice cream line for this new location.
“We wanted our next location to be family-centric and distanced from our current locations, which are tightly clustered on the Eastside,” Gordon tells Eater. “Woodland Hills truly seems like the perfect fit.” Expect an opening at some point this fall.
