LA Craft Beer Goliath Swallows Up Prime Silver Lake Space

There’s absolutely no stopping the Artisanal Brewers Collective. The eight-person team continues to tear up the real estate game all over Los Angeles, most recently picking up the lease on the shuttered Mixed Company corner in Silver Lake.

For those unfamiliar, Mixed Company was a short-lived all-day restaurant featuring bright colors and lots of seating both indoors and out. The project took literally years to come together, but only managed to stay on the market for ten months before ownership — the same team behind next-door bar The Black Cat — closed the doors and put the space up for sale. Plenty of restaurateurs have been rumored to be eyeballing the address ever since, but now it seems ABC has won the war.

The plan is to open a pizza-focused project called California Sun. Of course there will also be ample amounts of craft beer and wine, but no on-site brewing like some of ABC’s other projects around town. Timing-wise, it’s looking like a late-summer arrival for California Sun, though more details and a firm opening date are still unconfirmed. Then again, it’s not like the ABC crew has much of anything else going on at the moment.
