The new gig
Chef Mirko Paderno has a new gig at a fancy restaurant opening soon in Beverly Hills. There’s only one hook: It’s not open to the public. The soon-to-open Spring Place restaurant is part of a private co-working/art community of the same name (sort of like a Soho House) opening later this year. It’s an interesting gig for the former Oliviero/Officine Brera/Estrella chef, as he’ll still be cooking rustic Italian food, just for a completely insular clientele. Still, the place seems rather upscale and comes with some 200 seats indoor and out, so it’ll be a big job regardless of who’s paying at the end of the night.
Boyle love
Speaking of tacos, The Eastsider is in love with Los Cinco Puntos, the half-century-old carnitas hub in Boyle Heights. The place still draws long lines for freshly-finished carnitas and handmade tortillas.
Book time
Gaby Mylnarcyzk of Accomplice Bar has a book out called Clean & Dirty Drinking, and to celebrate the launch she’s doing a book signing on Sunday, August 19. The event includes passed apps, cocktail samples, the ability to purchase a copy of the book, and some money going towards Planned Parenthood.

Ice cream rankings
LA Magazine managed to try every ice cream sandwich at Los Angeles sweets icon Milk. They even ranked them all, coming away with Thai tea, coffee toffee, and red velvet among the top picks.
Tequila sunset
Chef Donnie Masterson of Mexico’s The Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende is showing up for a night of tequila drinking at Redbird on Wednesday, August 22. The $150 evening includes food from Neal Fraser, drinks from Casa Dragones, and service done out in the summertime garden at the back of the Downtown restaurant.
Bar and barbecue
Eagle Rock dinner destination Red Herring is hosting a barbecue party on Tuesday, August 21, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. The all-you-can-eat meat fest will feature ribs, chicken, brisket, links, sides, and pie for just $35 (gratuity included). There will also be a full bar available for purchase.
The burger wall
Burgers Never Say Die is coming along in Silver Lake, and now a new mural is going up on the side of their new restaurant building. Check out the early progress of the work below.
