And just like that, Studio City has surprising new dinner destination on its hands. This is Mister O’s, born of the former Take a Bao space on Ventura Boulevard, and with a backbone that’s been years in the making.
Mister O’s comes to life by way of serial restaurateur Michael Cardenas (Innovative Dining Group, The Robata), who spent years opening up important local projects like Downtown’s seminal Lazy Ox Canteen with Josef Centeno. Some of the DNA of that original restaurant now carry through here, with the casual new American vibe and focus on ingredients. It helps, of course, that Mister O’s chef Mario Alberto (Laurel Hardware, Tallula’s) worked with Centeno at Lazy Ox and elsewhere for years.
As for today’s Mister O’s menu expect a lot of modern California touches, from easy pasta to simple grilled meats, a basic burger, and plenty of vegetables. There’s a full cocktail bar under Rafael Jonathan Barba (The Restaurant Meadowood) as well, with a focus on whiskey that makes sense given the vibe of the room. The plush lounge area up near the bar (and out on the front patio) certainly aim for laid-back sipping, while the dining room provides an even dimmer date night appeal.
Mister O’s officially opens on Tuesday, September 4, keeping daily dinner hours from 5:30 p.m. until late. Happy hour will run weekdays from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
