Hundreds of folks showed up in Highland Park last night for a block party of sorts, done in part to celebrate the arrival of the area’s new Go Get Em Tiger coffee bar. The colorful shop right next to Triple Beam Pizza won’t fully open until next week, but the design is done and, soon, the coffee will be pouring fast.

This small new Figueroa space is just the latest offering from Charles Babinski and Kyle Glanville, the award-winning baristas (and now roasters) behind G&B Coffee and several other Go Get Em Tigers across the city. The Highland Park outlet has been in the works since last year, and the company still has upcoming spaces planned in the Arts District and at the Row development in Downtown.

What makes this Highland Park location stand out is the attention to detail, both in the Ricki Kline Design aesthetic but also in the group’s commitment to the changing community. The shop will have full menus in both English and Spanish, will host coffee cuppings in Spanish, and has hired almost exclusively from the surrounding neighborhood. And while Highland Park doesn’t carry the same complete menu as at the Los Feliz flagship, there will still be a daytime food menu that includes things like chilaquiles, a breakfast burrito, and more.

Go Get Em Tiger Highland Park officially opens next week, keeping shortened hours to start. Eventually coffee drinkers can expect daily hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a possible extension into later hours to coordinate with Triple Beam Pizza and Hippo in the back.
