Freebie alert

Shake Shack is doing buy-one-get-one-free burgers in Los Angeles between now and Sunday. The move is meant to motivate fans to root for the Los Angeles Rams as they try to make the Super Bowl, and comes with a cheeky code “HUNGRYFORMORE.” All anyone has to do is make it to a Shake Shack and order a Shackburger either online or via the app, then use the above code. It really is that simple, apparently, and with locations from Burbank to the South Bay, burgers really are that close. The deal runs today through Sunday. [update: Shake Shack has stopped allowing in-person orders; they mused be placed with the code through the app or online]

Mercado to the beach

Modern Mexican option Mercado is set to expand to Manhattan Village in the South Bay soon enough. The signage is already up, per Toddrickallen, and a summer arrival is likely.

Getting into the city

The annual Taste of Alhambra hits at the end of the month. The weeklong dining event starts January 27, with participating restaurants ranging from 38 Degrees Ale House to Phoenix Inn Chinese.

Italian feast

Dario Cecchino of Italy is coming to dinner at The Rooster in Santa Monica next month. The celebrated butcher will offer a unique Italian dinner to the masses on February 7, and space at the event is available now.

Beer team, assemble

Brooklyn Brewery’s beer is officially ready to launch for distribution in California, and to celebrate its arrival the company is hosting a couple of one-off events at various bars around the city. First up is a night at West 4th & Jane in Santa Monica on January 29, where founder Steve Hindy and brewmaster Garrett Oliver will be in attendance.

Go big

Woah — check out these massive desserts from Azules Coffee in Anaheim. The restaurant’s gigantic creations were captured by the Visit Anaheim team, who are working on a series showcasing various restaurants around the Orange County city.
