Sandwich arrival
It’s time for sandwiches in wine in Downtown. The new E Stretto sandwich shop quietly opened on Broadway inside Bar Clacson, doing a simple assortment of sandwiches on ciabatta bread. There’s the Il Papa with mortadella and capicola, and a pressed roast beef option with cheese dipping sauce on the side. Salads and sides are also in abundance, along with espresso and wine. Current hours for the Joel David Miller (The Wallace) and Dave Fernie (Honeycut) project are 11 a.m. until sell out, with a more official opening on January 8. 351 S. Broadway, Downtown. The opening posted menu is below.

No more Montresor
Valley option Montresor is down for the count. The quiet Studio City bistro closed without notice, saying via the voicemail message that it would “reopen soon,” though no timeline is given.
Goodbye to a legend
Embassy Kitchen in San Gabriel has closed, reports posters on Food Talk Central. The final night of service for the San Gabriel Valley Cantonese spot was New Years Eve.
Keeping the dream alive
The former LA Burgers stand on Pico Boulevard has officially been saved, reports Urbanize LA. The Googie-styled stand (which, in an even younger life, was an Orange Julius) will be incorporated into the architecture of a new mixed-use building going up on the property.
Five years in
The Greyhound is celebrating five years in Highland Park. The popular sports bar will do free wings all day on January 11 to celebrate, plus some rare craft beer pours starting at noon.
