Silver Lake’s cozy Sunset Junction Coffee Shop will close at the end of the month. Eater has confirmed that the final day of service will be Sunday, January 27.
Sunset Junction Coffee Shop first came to life back in the summer of 2012, offering a retro daytime experience that felt more like a classic Los Angeles diner than almost anything else happening on the hip stretch, save for the timeless Millie’s Cafe just down the way. With its powder blue stools and Formica countertops, the Coffee Shop felt at home in a 1950s version of the city, with prices that just about matched. Now, despite a strong local following, the time has come to move on.
Owner Jenna Turner (Habitat Coffee, D3, and Chango) tells Eater that she has nothing but love for her time at Sunset Junction. The restaurant’s building was recently sold to a friendly new group keen to flip the storefront space into something new, so a deal was worked out that made sense for all parties involved, she says. These last few weeks will serve as a goodbye to the community, and a time for employees to find new job opportunities elsewhere. The final day of service is January 27.
As for what’s next, that’s still to be determined. An official new tenant has not been publicly announced, but word is there could be someone big on the line. Got more info? Hit the tipline, anonymity guaranteed.
