Los Angeles diners were saddened earlier this year by the loss of Paru’s, the legendary East Hollywood Indian restaurant that had stood for some 40 years on Sunset Boulevard. Now a newcomer has taken over, and promises a pretty big twist.

The old Paru’s has been completely modernized to become Lolo Wine Bar, a leafy, gold-tinged hangout for bar snacks and natural wine, complete with an expansive patio. Owner Laurie Mulstay (The Bar, Bar Chloe, Magnolia) has fully flipped the standalone building, and crews were out yesterday giving the restaurant an even darker, cooler paint job to go along with the house plants and neon sign.

Reached by email, Mulstay says that Lolo is meant to “bring something valuable and interesting to the neighborhood,” calling it “a place to hit on your way to Silver Lake, Downtown, or a short hop from Hollywood.” The food menu comes from chef Jeff Whittaker, who has been at places like Momofuku Nishi in New York City, while Frank Falcinelli of the Frankie Sputino world oversees the restaurant as well as the wine list, in conjunction with John Burns Paterson (formerly of NoMad in New York City). It’s a big East Coast collaboration on the management team it seems, though the place itself leans towards natural wines, natural light, and feels naturally Los Angeles.

Lolo Wine Bar opened over the weekend, and is planning for a more grand reveal beginning tonight. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday beginning at 5:30 p.m. The opening menus are below.
