Bondi Harvest has a new location coming to Culver City as of this week. The Australian cafe recently took over Hayden with a new approach to its typically healthy and casual style. The new space at the Platform project still emphasizes healthy, but this time the menu hews less casual.
The Westside restaurant maintains a loyal following among health-conscious diners, but the Culver City spot has a different team altogether from the Santa Monica outpost. Owners Mark Alston and Guy Turland opened Bondi Harvest’s Santa Monica doors in 2016, where the daytime menu includes coffee, eggs on toast, breakfast bowls, sandwiches, and green smoothies.
Shared plates and barbecue are the inspiration, along with an entirely Australian beer and wine list. Butterflied barbecued prawns, a 32-ounce Aussie Wagyu tomahawk steak, and half chicken come from the grill, and starters include a poached shrimp sandwich, plant-based mushroom meatballs, and fish crudo.
Hayden closed back in June, which ended a run at Culver City’s Platform. It was a struggle for Hayden to draw a sustainable crowd, even after switching towards a casual menu in the middle of its two-year run. Bondi Harvest will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
