You Can Almost Feel the Ocean Breeze at This New East Hollywood Clam Shack

Found Oyster arrives November 1 in a tiny 26-seat space from former Hayden chef Ari Kolender

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Just in time for some chilly East Coast mornings comes Found Oyster, a tiny shoebox of a clam and oyster bar in East Hollywood’s budding little restaurant block. Opening today with a short, cheery menu of fresh oysters, shucked clams, chowder, a lobster roll, fried oysters, and some tasty-looking steamers, chef Ari Kolender (Hayden) helms the small but ambitious kitchen. Last Word Hospitality partners Adam Weisblatt, Holly Fox, and Kolender draw from their various upbringings in the East Coast for a simple, 26-seat seat space that feels like a seaside clam shack, just 15 miles inland.

In a dining scene where Instagram is king and big, flexible menus are the norm, it’s refreshing to see such a straightforward, focused shellfish bar that’s not too common despite LA’s proximity to the ocean. The offerings should expand to beer and wine in coming days, but until then, the sweet, briny liqueur inside the fresh oysters sourced from GM Joe Laraja’s own family farm should do the trick.

Found Oyster is open today, with hours from noon to 5 p.m., Friday to Sunday for the month of November. Come December, it’ll ramp up with extended hours and a bigger menu.
