The Original Farmers Market will introduce a new British restaurant in early 2020. Market Tavern appears to have all the makings of a proper British pub, with an emphasis on not just about grabbing a pint, but also enjoying a full-service meal in the middle of LA’s iconic 84-year-old market.
Market Tavern comes by way of chef Brendan Collins, who most recently opened Santa Monica’s hip new Fia. Collins partnered with Gary Twinn, the longstanding manager at the Original Farmers Market’s Bar 326 and E.B.’s Beer & Wine. Twinn, who spent years in the UK as a touring musician, first began talking to Collins about a partnership years ago.
Twinn formally took over Ludwig Biergarten space, which closed in 2015 after operating for less than one year, earlier this summer. Prior to that, the space was a central location for the retro chain Johnny Rockets.
The owners describe Market Tavern as “British-Californian” with a full cocktail bar, curated beer menu, and British classics. Premier League fans can watch their favorite teams while eating an English breakfast and a Sunday roast on weekends.
Market Tavern. 333 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA
