All new ramen
There’s a hot new ramen restaurant now open in Orange County’s Fountain Valley, just in time for the cold winter months. Ryu Ramen is the work of chef Ryu Isobe, and focuses mostly on tonkotsu pork broth as well as mazemen brothless ramen; there’s also one vegan option, called “hipster ramen” on the menu, naturally. Current hours are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for now, with a grand opening slated for December 14, when Ryu will be giving away ramen to the first 100 people in line.
Coming right along
Things are getting close at the San Pedro Fish Market in Long Beach, says What Now LA. The 10,000 square foot restaurant is hoping to open before the end of the year.
That’s a lot of snow
It was a quiet, cold weekend at Newcomb’s Ranch, the 1930’s era roadhouse near the top of the Angeles Crest Highway above Los Angeles. Check out the snowy Saturday scene below.

Telling the truth
Teresa Montaño of Otoño is out on the James Beard Award-winning podcast Copper & Heat talking about undocumented workers in the many kitchens of Los Angeles — including her own.
Another one in the kitchen
Top Chef’s Edward Lee is popping up at Crossroads Kitchen on Melrose on Wednesday, December 11 for a fully-vegan tasting menu evening running $75 a head.
Saving the place
Mike Dobson (Venice Whaler, Pier House) and Eric Beranek have successfully purchased the longstanding Baja Cantina on Washington in Marina del Rey. The team says that they are keen to keep the decades-old Oaxacan restaurant just as it has been for years.
Lunch news
Bon Temps in the Arts District is going full service for lunch starting today. Expect a sit-down meal running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday; the opening menu is below.
