Owners of the Borderline Bar & Grill, the site of a 2018 mass shooting that left 13 people dead in Thousand Oaks, have announced plans to reopen. The country-western bar was for years a haven for college students and locals looking to get away for some line dancing, before a gunman opened fire just after 11 p.m. on November 7, 2018. The bar has remained closed since then, though survivors of the shooting and Borderline’s owners have taken to promoting other dance nights around Southern California, including at the Canyon Clubs in Santa Clarita and Agoura Hills.
Now owners Brian Hynes and Troy Hale say they will reopen the original Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, though they do not yet have a timeline. “It’s going to take a little while,” said Hynes in an announcement video posted to YouTube.
In the meantime, Hynes and Hale have also announced plans for a new property to open in Agoura Hills at the site of the former Hamburger Hamlet on Agoura Road, to be called the BL Dancehall & Saloon. The restaurant and bar’s website mentions a “brand new custom built dance floor” as well as a patio, outside bar, game room, and live performance nights. No formal grand opening party has yet been announced, but ownership is keen to open “very soon,” per the BL Dancehall & Saloon website.
