Here comes Cook’s

Los Angeles mainstay Cook’s Tortas is set for some serious expansion thanks to the folks at Fransmart, who have helped to bring the Halal Guys, Mamoun’s, and more to greater national prominence. Per Fast Casual, the 11-year-old Monterey Park restaurant will immediately begin plotting for franchise partners to grow across the country.

No more Sun

California Sun has stopped serving in Silver Lake, leaving a “closed until further notice” note up on its website.

Snow and sun

Brooke Williamson and Nick Roberts are going tiki themed for the holidays at Runway Playa Vista, complete with a Santa show-up and lots of sugary rum drinks — plus food from Da Kikokiko.

Party on

The Golden Bull in Santa Monica is turning 70 on Sunday, and to celebrate the restaurant is doing a happy hour menu all night long.

No more Ripples

Long Beach’s longstanding Ripples LGBTQ bar has closed after nearly 50 years in business along Ocean Boulevard, reports the Grunion Gazette.

But not forgotten

Food GPS talked to a number of prominent Los Angeles food folks about the restaurants they miss the most, from Canele in Atwater Village to RiceBar in Downtown.

Starting the conversation

The new South LA Cafe at 3991 S. Western Ave. is hosting a large-format conversation about mental health on Saturday, December 7, starting at 11 a.m.
