Going dark
The folks behind swanky Eagle Rock dinner spot Red Herring are pulling the plug (for now) on their Colorado Boulevard restaurant next month, as they plan to focus their time, money, and staff on the upcoming opening of a new location in Downtown, which should open next to the Whole Foods later this year. Ownership sends along the following note:
Don’t fret, pets, but March 3rd brunch will be our last service - TEMPORARILY! We are going dark for a few months in order to get prepped for the opening of our second fabulous location in the heart of Downtown LA. We love love love you all and have had a genuinely life changing experience here in Eagle Rock; trust that you’ll be seeing us again very soon.
Shreebs in the streets
Tiny daytime spot Shreebs Coffee is finally open in Echo Park. The tucked-away stunner celebrated its first week in business last week.
Westwood arrival
Tocaya Organica has officially opened in Westwood. The healthy-ish Mexican restaurant had its first day of service at 1140 Gayley Avenue last Friday, reports Toddrickallen.
New beginnings
The Daily Pilot plots the course for the Old Vine in Orange County. The stalwart restaurant has expanded its operation after more than ten years in business.
Coachella updates
Coachella, Southern California’s biggest music festival, is almost ready to roll once again. The two-weekend event is filled with great music and art installations alongside some killer food, including Outstanding in the Field dinners from notable chefs like Jessica Largey, Nyesha Arrington, and Elisabeth Prueitt from Tartine. Check out the whole Outstanding lineup over at the LA Times.
Pizza names
Longtime LA pizzaiolo Fernando Darin (Ray’s + Stark Bar) is stepping into the Eataly kitchens this week with a guest chef night at inside-the-market eateries La Pizza & La Pasta. Expect lots of pizza talk, naturally.
