In what feels like a throwback to large steakhouses of the past, the forthcoming H&H Brazilian Steakhouse opens on Seventh near Grand in mid-March. Back in November, they took over the shuttered So Long Hi and Soi 7, and transformed it into a hefty 4,620 square foot restaurant featuring an all-you-can-eat churrasco.
H&H will take things slow after its soft opening on March 21. The menu starts with an all-you-can-eat grass-fed grilled meats, Brazilian sea bass, and a bottomless organic salad bar with traditional Brazilian dishes, salads, along with plenty of cured meats. As with any steakhouse, there are side dishe like Brazilian black beans, a 21-day chicken, and an a la carte menu.
H&H will start with beer and a mostly South American and organic wine list, then expand to a full bar when the ABC license is approved. There’s also a 1,000 square foot patio in the back that won’t be ready until after the opening. That should put H&H’s capacity to approximately 200 seats when construction fully completed.
Originally from Brazil, owner Henrique Huyer spent a decade working at Fogo de Chao, and four years managing the Downtown location. He believes Downtown is the best spot for his first business. It’s quite the block already, with Bottega Louie right next door and NoMad across the street, with the likes of Little Sister, Q Sushi, and Seven Grand in the neighborhood too.
It’s an ambitious opening, as large-scale steakhouses have largely disappeared from the Southern California landscape in recent years. But perhaps there’s a new customer to be found, similar to the resurgence and new ownership and relaunch of Gaucho Grill last year.
H&H’s lunch hours will be Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Dinner Monday through Friday is from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. and Sundays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
