Tacos 1986, the new street taco star that began cooking in late November 2018 in Hollywood, had found a relatively comfortable spot along Western Avenue in Koreatown before circumstances caused them to close down. It’s possibly for the better, as partners Victor Delgado and Jorge “Joy” Alvarez-Tostado announce today that the stand will open up two new locations: one in Venice outside of Wanderlust Creamery and another at Full Service Coffee in the northern edge of Koreatown.

The upstart taco stand brings quality Tijuana-style carne asada, adobada, and more to LA at a time when Angelenos are becoming rather obsessed with the Baja California specialty. LA Times critic Bill Addison even gave the place a glowing review. These grilled meat tacos, along with the stewed birria de res tacos at places like Teddy’s Red Tacos and Birrieria Gonzalez, are all the rage among street food lovers in the city.

Tacos 1986’s Venice operation starts tonight at 7 p.m. and runs until midnight, and while they’re only promising to pop-up for one night, the goal is to eventually operate along Lincoln Boulevard every night of the week, which would be a major boon for taco-loving Westsiders. Look forward to updates on 1986’s Instagram about the Venice location’s future.

In addition, Tacos 1986 will take over the rather prime location along Beverly Boulevard that is Full Service Coffee, which resides in a classic 1940s-style Texaco gas station. That huge, partially-covered outdoor area could make for an amazing place to enjoy tacos, and the idea is for Delgado and Alvarez-Tostado to serve the northern Koreatown and greater Eastside every night of the week there as well. Tacos 1986 at Full Service Coffee will operate this Friday and Saturday, and assuming all parties are satisfied with the operation, it’ll become permanent. Hours will run 7 p.m. to midnight, though hopefully weekend hours will stretch later on subsequent weekends.

Despite the future of these two new locations, Tacos 1986 continues to cook at Smorgasburg every Sunday.
