Beach burgers
There’s a casual new burger spot to know about in Santa Monica. It’s called, interestingly enough, Cowabunga Republic, and it sports a classic red and white look and a number of outdoor-only tables. The small spot seems to have arrived just last week, as one tipster says the place seemed pretty bustling as of Saturday. Expect a standard menu of burgers, chicken sandwiches, and fries. City paperwork for the place at 2912 Main Street indicates that it’s the same owner as nearby restaurant Holy Guacamole.
Frites heist
Tough luck for the folks at Super Frites, as it looks like they’ve had their entire setup stolen over the past few days. They weren’t able to make their scheduled Smorgasburg stop, and it’s unclear when they’ll be able to get up and running again.
More news
Weird Wave Coffee has once again been vandalized in Boyle Heights. The contentious coffee shop had paint thrown at their above-door signage last month, reports the Boyle Heights Beat.
Love for Moo’s
Moo’s Craft Barbecue is being called “some of the best Texas barbecue” around by Food & Wine. The Smorgasburg star started in East LA and now works the longest Sunday lines as fans queue up for brisket, links, and more.
In the family
It’s industry night tonight at Mezcalero in Downtown Los Angeles. Expect $7 mezcal cocktails, or $9 beer and shot combos.
It’s a party
One of LA’s best Mardi Gras parties may well be at Darrow’s New Orleans Grill in Carson this year, where live music and a crawfish boil join forces to create a whole bunch of magic tomorrow night.
