In August last year, Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen opened in the South LA neighborhood of View Park/Windsor Hills. Determined to create a locally-owned daytime spot, the owners brought a fresh new cafe to South LA. This formula is clearly working, so Hilltop Coffee will open two new locations in both Inglewood and Eagle Rock later this year.

The Inglewood Hilltop will be housed at the former Sweetie Pies on La Brea, just across the street from Sip & Sonder cafe which opened in November, Inglewood’s City Hall, and the Stevie Wonder-owned radio station, KJLH.

Over in Eagle Rock, they’ll setup shop on the ground floor of the newly-finished Perch apartments on Eagle Rock Boulevard near Avenue 42. The neighborhood maintains a few established favorite cafes, but would be a welcome stop for laptop commuters, and those in need of fresh dining options. Habitat Coffee and Little Ripper are less than a mile away from their soon-to-be competitor.

Hilltop owners Ajay Relan and Yonnie Hagos introduced the original cafe last August which feels like a cozy community space, but with quality coffee and food. Although this time, Relan and Hagos will have to make do without chef Jason Fullilove. The group amicably parted ways last month, but the menu will remain the same with sandwiches, salads, bowls, juices, and coffee from Local roaster Blackwelder Coffee Co.

“The way the View Park/Windsor Hills neighborhood has embraced the original Hilltop has been absolutely overwhelming,” says Relan. “We hope the new locations will inspire local creatives and community organizers to come together and make those spaces their own.”
