Venice’s Hotel Erwin is best-known for its stunning rooftop patio, which provides one of LA’s best views of the Pacific. As of this Friday, the owners will open a new ground floor restaurant called Erwin’s Kitchen & Cocktails, which took over the former Barlo Kitchen & Cocktails.
Though touting itself as a restaurant with SoCal beach fare, the menu rides all over the globe with grilled octopus, Vietnamese spring rolls, salads, a Peruvian lomo saltado, chickpea curry, fresh pastas, burgers, and a fried chicken sandwich. Everything appears to be focused on being “healthy,” and there’s a full bar with fresh juice cocktails, beer, and wine.
The restaurant will also open a renovated patio that overlooks Pacific Avenue, which will be a good overflow spot when the rooftop gets too crowded. Hotel Erwin’s owners have some additional plans for late spring with a forthcoming by-the-slice pizza spot. That will be a welcome add to this section of Venice, as the bulk of adjacent pizza options are stationed closer to the Boardwalk or Abbott Kinney.
The hours are a bit unusual though. Erwin Kitchen will open early Monday through Friday at 7 a.m., then close at 11:30 a.m. On Saturday and Sunday, brunch runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., with dinner service Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from until midnight.
