Baroo Cooks a Korean Burger at This Sunday’s Egg-Themed Smorgasburg

Plus new brunch menus, and celebrating 4/20

A crowd gathers and waits to order food at Smorgasburg in Downtown Los Angeles. Smorgasburg

If You Like it Then You Should Put an Egg on it

It’s a brilliant take for Easter Sunday, where the weekly Downtown food event Smorgasburg LA celebrates its annual Put an Egg on Everything Day. The popular Lowkey Burritos will make a cheesy breakfast burrito appearance. Even vegans have plenty of “egg” options with Cena Vegan’s “Machaca” & Tofu Scramble, or the cold skin noodles topped with a vegan egg from Ma La La. The bonus is the addition of Baroo, who assumes the spot at the weekly Smorgasburger Stand with a Korean-influenced smashburger topped with fermented veggies. Smorgasburg LA runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at ROW-LA.

Brunch & a Movie

The Tuck Room Tavern dives into brunch this weekend. For background, the James Beard-award winning pastry chef Sherry Yard opened Tuck Room’s Westwood arm in 2016, which accompanies iPic Entertainment theaters. The spring menu takes a spin on traditional dishes including the crispy latke fries, grapefruit brûlée, and a soufflée pancake.

And More Brunch

Westwood Village’s Audrey at the Hammer also expands into brunch. Audrey’s weekend daytime menu ranges from light fare to sleep-inducing dishes with crab chilaquiles, and a forbidden black rice with a soft boiled egg and Meyer lemon vinaigrette. Reservations are recommended from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

4/20 Madness

As the annual stoner-friendly date for the cannabis users, 4/20 is this Sunday. LA businesses are feeling particularly inspired around this unofficial holiday. LA ice cream spot Four Winters is jumping in on the craze with liquid nitrogen scoops plus a $3 supplemental dose of CBD. And in Hollywood, Swissx Cannabis and Gaming Lounge opens Saturday. It’s a private club, and a day pass is available for $19.95, a 30-day is $100, or an annual for $100. A visit includes a $59 CBD shake, cannabis in the form of joints or hookahs, and snacks. It’s unclear how this lounge is legal, as California and local permits are very restrictive. RSVPs are required: (213) 277-7072.

More Coffee Drinking in Inglewood

Downtown Inglewood’s Market Street just got a bit brighter, as the fairly new Sip & Sonder extended operating hours. Sip & Sonder is a welcome add to South LA, especially since the community-oriented Magic Johnson Starbucks closed last October. Hours are now Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and closed Sunday.
