There’s good news on the horizon for the greater Westside vegan community, as Doomie’s Home Cookin’ opens in Culver City today after a bit of delay. The hit Hollywood spot has been doing plant-based food for years, from decadent Big Mac replacements to rich chocolate cake, and their new spot is certainly no different.

The new Culver City outlet lands in a rather auspicious corner location that has been many things over the years, including (most recently) the short-lived Ramen Roll. The unique ground floor space is permitted to allow food as well as dry market goods, so expect this Doomie’s to carry a limited menu of classics as well as merch for sale. Word is they’ll even be selling vegan pantry basics, and maybe even some furniture for good measure.

Doomie’s has for over a decade been a haven for the meatless and dairy-free dining community within greater Los Angeles, playing to crowds looking for comfort American food fare as opposed to only salads and other healthy stuff. That angle only deepened with last year’s opening of Next Mex in City Terrace, which serves a variety of casual vegan Mexican entrees, from tacos and burritos to nachos. The plan, down the line, is to bring some of those Mexican entrees to Culver City as well.

The new Doomie’s started service yesterday, running limited daytime hours only for now. It’ll take time for the restaurant to push into daily dinner service, with brunch to follow, so expect a tighter dining window there than at the all-day Hollywood location, at least initially.
