Flashy Sunset Strip Gets the Basic Hotel Restaurant West Hollywood Really Wants

The H.Wood Group restaurant and marketplace can do it all

It’s a busy day for West Hollywood today, as the Sunset Strip section of the standalone city just keeps getting more good restaurant news. First up was an announcement on the future arrival of none other than Wolfgang Puck, and now there’s Alice, the new day-to-night restaurant that opened early this morning inside the 1 Hotel.

Alice is just the latest work from the very active H.Wood Group, who have been on a spree opening (and reopening) places around Los Angeles and out in Chicago, from clubs like Bootsy Bellows to dinner spots like Mason, opening soon in Santa Monica. For now the focus is on the Sunset Strip, where group culinary director Maynard Llera and chef de cuisine Geter Atienza are turning out all-day basics that range from croque madames to chia bowls, salads, and a sandwich using brisket from sister barbecue restaurant Slab. There’s even a marketplace up front for quick grab and go items and other assorted needs, plus a bar for cocktails and a leafy patio.

In total, the new Alice spans some 2,800 square feet, with design from John Sofio of Built, Inc. The restaurant is designed to be a breezy, easy-to-use street level complement to the other projects happening there as well, including H.Wood’s rooftop bar Harriet’s on property as well as former Top Chef Chris Crary’s upcoming restaurant 1 Kitchen.

Alice is open as of today in West Hollywood, keeping daily hours starting at 10 a.m. and running through dinner. The opening menu is below.
