Barely open a year, West Hollywood’s gorgeous bistro Barbette is closed to the public. A tipster noted the restaurant’s locked doors earlier this week, and co-owner Jared Meisler confirmed the closure on Monday, May 13. Meisler and Sean MacPherson will hold onto the place for now, but only for private events.

Barbette’s interior is something to behold. The modern bistro vibe includes a rear patio with fireplace, imported artwork and built-ins, and food from chef Robert Flaherty, who got his start under April Bloomfield at New York’s Spotted Pig. Bartenders made colorful cocktail creations that combined grappa, sparkling rose wine, and Giffard black rose liqueur, the bar was a festive place to hang out.

With restaurants like The Pikey and longstanding Jones Hollywood, MacPherson (who previously worked with Meisler at these places) is well-versed in restaurant holdings throughout the city and beyond. But Barbette resides in a tricky location one block away Astro Burger, and across the street from Breakfast By Salt’s Cure. Though right in West Hollywood amid some of the city’s best restaurants, with Jones a mere six blocks away, this stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard is still perhaps a bit sleepy.

In the meantime, Meisler spread his bar ventures to Marina del Rey with the new addition of The Little Friend, with partners Mickey Madden (of Maroon 5) and Marius Markevicius. The Friend’s sister bar opened this past weekend.
