Some Big LA Restaurant Players Just Took Over Hollywood’s Hearth & Hound

One of Hollywood’s most prominent restaurant spaces comes back to life very soon. Months after the unceremonious closing of April Bloomfield’s beleaguered Hearth & Hound on Sunset, Superba Food + Bread announces it will take over the iconic Hollywood restaurant.

Eater confirmed the lease signing with Jeff Goodman, CEO of the American Gonzo Food Corporation that owns and operates Superba Food + Bread and its related restaurant projects. The Hollywood opening will join the company’s two other existing locations in Venice and El Segundo, doing breakfast through dinner fare with a focus on casual salads and sandwiches, plus coffee and cocktails.

The company also operates Pitfire Pizza across Southern California, as well as the more fast casual offshoot Superba Snacks + Coffee. Later this year they’ll be branching out even further, adding a steakhouse to Venice’s Rose Avenue called American Beauty. It’s unclear at the moment when Superba Food + Bread will open its Hollywood location.

The address’s previous tenant, Hearth & Hound, was April Bloomfield’s big Los Angeles debut. However, The New York Times reported just six days after the opening that Bloomfield’s then-business partner Ken Friedman had been a serial sexual harasser, stemming from his years running successful restaurants in New York City. Bloomfield eventually took full control over Hearth & Hound last year, but the restaurant still ultimately closed in January. The building was listed on the market in March asking $26,000 in monthly rent.
