More noodles

Popular Japanese noodle shop Marugame Udon opens next week at the Bloc in Downtown. The suddenly-busy development is expected to add udon to its dining mix this month alongside Canadian casual import Joey and the upcoming (and long-awaited) Alamo Drafthouse movie theater and restaurant. Expect Marugame Udon to open at the Bloc on July 9 at 700 S. Flower St.

Chinatown rock

Here’s a fascinating story from Topic that covers the emerging 1970’s West Coast punk scene and LA’s own Chinatown. As the story goes, restaurants in the struggling neighborhood began renting out banquet hall space for punk shows to earn extra money, turning the neighborhood into one of several booming punk rock enclaves across California.

Summertime meats

Orange County’s Heritage Barbecue is hosting a meaty pop-up at Chapman Crafted for July 4. Take-home briskets and ribs can be pre-ordered, but for everything else just show up and eat.

Dine with the Prince

Santa Monica’s Little Prince is hosting a guest chef dinner tomorrow night with Sergio Mezza from Villanos en Bermudas out of Bogota, Colombia. The collaborative menu will be served a la carte.

At the game

Speaking of guest chefs, the Dodgers are lining up a number of names to cook at the stadium this season. They include Danny Trejo from Trejo’s Tacos (July 2-7), Border Grill (July 19-24), Park’s BBQ (August 1-7), and Boo’s Philly Cheesesteak (August 20-25) in the coming weeks.

Inexpensive drinking

The Factory Kitchen has a great new Monday meal deal to know about. Now through September 30, diners can get 50% off of any bottle of wine at the restaurant, either at lunch or dinner.

Burgers in the heat

Speaking of deals and the 4th of July, Burgers Never Say Die in Silver Lake is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, doing $5 regular burgers all day long.
